Just who is Ray “Grizzly” Racobs?   

Writing Bio 

Not long after Ray self-acquired “Grizzly” as a nickname (for various reasons),Grizzly’s This ’N That (Author House 2004) became his largest literary endeavor.  Since then he’s written Oro, The Incredible Dog (Publish America 2005)and Oro, The “Tail” Continues (Wingspan Press 2006).  His “Oro” series is about the exploits of a telepathic dog and his owner. 


Over the years, Ray has written various articles, commentaries and editorials for several Wichita area newspapers or organizational newsletters.  He’s currently working on four writing projects: 

*An updated version of his first book, Grizzly’s This ‘N That 

*The book, You’re Telling Me This Because that will feature 100 of his favorite columns  

*The third book in the Oro series,Oro, Canine Versus Crime 

*Currently writes a light-humor column for The Kansas Senior Times. 


“Grizzly” has been a Kansas Writers Association member for over five years and has served on their board of directors since 2008.  He took over as Contest Chair for KWA’s annual writing contests in 2009.  In 2011 he was also appointed as Youth Chair for the organization. 


So what are Ray’s greatest joys away from work, you might ask (or not)? 

Being married to Lynda (aka “Doe”), his wife of 17 years 

Companionship with Oso Oro and Jay Jay, his therapy dogs 

Visiting any mountain in Colorado while on vacation with Lynda and the dogs 


Past Education 

High School graduate from McPherson High School -1964 

Associate Degree from Butler County Community College – 1997 – General degree with a 4.0 

Bachelor’s Degree from Friends University – 2002 – Business Management degree with a 4.0 


Past Employment 

He served in the U. S. Navy and in Vietnam with Helicopter Attack Squadron Three 

Ray retired from his position as a Youth Camp Ranger after a period of 27 years – 1980-2008 

Armored Truck Driver with Garda Security Services 2007-10 

School Bus Driver with Durham School Services 2008-10 

K-12 Substitute Teacher for various Wichita area USD’s - 1997 to present 



Navy Commendation Medal w/Combat “V” for duty in Vietnam - 1969 

In 1997 he was “Firefighter of the Year” for Fire District #1 in Andover, KS 

Graduated with high honors from BCCC and Friends University 

He was the 2003 “Friend of the Year” for the Haysville Community Library. 

Numerous awards for his writing, but Griz is still looking for the elusive “Best Seller” award
